Yerba Mate Tea

Description:

Yerba Mate was once considered the “nectar of the Gods” in the jungles along the Amazon. What is now the national beverage of most South American countries, originated in Paraguay with a local tribe who drank it and then started to cultivate it.

At first, the tea was a form of tribal ritual and even acted as a peace-pipe among the natives.

In the seventeenth century, the Spanish colonizers began drinking it as well.  Soon Yerba Mate became Paraguay’s number one export. With such growing popularity, Brazil, Argentina, and Chile also began to grow it. Later the Brazilian Mate gained renown when it  became the favorite drink of the Gauchos…mostly enjoyed around the campfire.

The attraction of Yerba Mate is the surge of energy it produces. This energy is derived from caffeine, which is bound to tannic substances. This means caffeine is set free into the body slowly, over time. Therefore, the stimulating effect lasts longer than that of coffee.

Yerba Mate has a very distinctive taste (strong and somewhat bitter) that may require some getting used to (Roasted Brazilian Mate). Let’s say “it’s an acquired taste”. Yet, once blended with fresh mint (Gaucho Mint) or creamy caramel (Caramel Mate), the distasteful aspects disappear. Would you like to try Yerba Mate? OK. Yerba Mate tea buy online right here.
